Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest H.S. Berman and Mrs. A Birengberg present a check to Dr. Joseph Tennebaum, then president of the AFPJ. The organization attempted to protect Polish Jews during the Holocaust by eliciting Catholic Church intervention, to little avail.

Center for Jewish History, NYC Description: Administration of the Juedische Volkskueche with a photograph of Rabbi Arnold Taenzer on the desk; Biala, Poland. Born in Pressburg, Austria-Hungary (now Bratislava, Czechoslovakia) on January 30, 1871, Arnold (also known as Aron) Taenzer received his doctorate at the University of Berlin. He was an army chaplain during World War I and established kitchens in Poland for the Jewish population. He served as rabbi in Hohenems and Meran, Austria, and in Goeppingen, where he died on March 19, 1937.
